Rhinoplasty in Denver, CO
The nose you were meant to have
When you look in the mirror, is your nose the first thing you see? For those of us unhappy with the shape of our noses, it often is. When your nose works harmoniously with your other features, it blends seamlessly into your face. A rhinoplasty, or “nose job” is a surgical procedure that is performed to change the shape or appearance of the nose.
Dr. Emily Misch is one of the top rhinoplasty surgeons in Denver and can help you achieve your goals, whether you want to get rid of a hump, straighten your nose, narrow your nose, or make it look more refined. The rhinoplasty techniques Dr. Misch employs can also help improve your nasal breathing. There are two main techniques. Open rhinoplasty involves an incision made at the base of the nose to better visualize the underlying structures; more dramatic nose reshaping can be achieved for patients who are bothered by a crooked nose, overly large nose, or other concerns. Closed rhinoplasty is a great option for patients who are primarily concerned with a dorsal hump and issues concerning the nasal tip.
Who is a rhinoplasty candidate?
You are a candidate for a rhinoplasty, or nose job, if you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose. You may also be a candidate if your main complaint is difficulty breathing through your nose.
Common reasons for considering a rhinoplasty or nose job include:
A nose that is too big or too small in proportion to your face
A nasal hump or a bump on the bridge of the nose
A crooked or asymmetrical nose
A wide or large nasal tip
A droopy nasal tip
A deviated septum
Nostrils that appear too wide or too large
You should be overall healthy and a non-smoker. It is also important to have realistic expectations and a positive attitude to help you navigate your recovery! At your rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Misch will examine your nose and discuss your concerns to create a personalized rhinoplasty procedure.
What are the benefits of a rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty, or cosmetic nose surgery, will change the appearance of the nose. It can help make the nose look smaller or narrower. A nasal hump can be removed during rhinoplasty. The cartilage that form the nasal tip can be refined during rhinoplasty surgery, making the nasal tip look smaller and more defined. The angle of the nasal tip can be adjusted or rotated to help lift a drooping tip. Overly wide or large nostrils can be reduced in size.
A rhinoplasty, or nose job, can also help your nasal breathing. Deviated cartilage and bone that is blocking your nasal airway can be removed during surgery. If necessary, your own cartilage can also be used to support your internal nasal structure, creating a more open nasal airway.
What is rhinoplasty recovery like?
During rhinoplasty recovery, you will have a cast on your nose that is removed 1 week after rhinoplasty surgery. You may or may not have stitches that will be removed around that time. You may have some bruising or swelling around the eyes; this typically resolves by 1 week. It is recommended that you rest for the first week after rhinoplasty surgery. At two weeks, you can resume nearly all your normal activities.
Your healing will continue every day, with full results seen around a year after surgery. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Misch will be with you every step of the way!

Rhinoplasty FAQs
-
To start, no one NEEDS a rhinoplasty! It simply depends on what your goals are.
While rhinoplasty surgery will always produce more significant results, in patients with small nasal humps or other deformities, a “liquid rhinoplasty” or “non surgical rhinoplasty” may be an appropriate less invasive option.
-
A liquid or non surgical rhinoplasty involves the strategic placement of facial filler into the tissue overlying the nose. This is typically most effective in patients seeking to camouflage a small nasal hump or subtlety give the nasal tip the appearance of more projection or rotation.
Rhinoplasty surgery will always be able to obtain more significant results, but for those desiring minor changes, a liquid or non surgical rhinoplasty can be a good option.
Dr. Misch performs liquid rhinoplasty or non surgical rhinoplasty in her Denver, CO office.

Most herbal supplements should be stopped 2 weeks prior to surgery. Any blood thinner or aspirin will also need to be stopped. You should avoid taking NSAIDs for 7 days prior to surgery.
Supplements like arnica, bromelain, vitamin C, and zinc may be taken prior to surgery, as these can help reduce bruising and swelling.
You will be prescribed pain medication to take after surgery.
Dr. Misch will personally review your medication list prior to surgery and discuss what to and not to take with you directly.

Yes, a cast is placed on the nose after rhinoplasty. It is used to help decrease swelling in the nose, as well as protect the nose and nasal bones as they are healing. It is removed 1 week after surgery.

The main considerations regarding how old a patient should be for rhinoplasty are whether or not they have stopped growing and if they are emotionally mature enough for the surgery.
In girls, the nose has typically stopped growing by age 14 or 15. In boys, the nose typically has stopped growing by 16 or 17 years of age.
In patients under the age of 18, parental consent must be obtained in order to have rhinoplasty surgery.
Dr. Misch will take a detailed medical history during your consultation to determine if she feels you are an appropriate age for rhinoplasty surgery.
